Education Week: La. Educators to Be Tested in Race to the Top
Who will we test next? The President of the United States, legislators, parents.... There has neve been a test invented to determine a persons future success or failure. "A students work for C students", or as President Busch said, you can be a C student and become the President of the United States or a drop out and become the Vice President. We have lost are minds in "The Race To The Top" and testing companies are making a killing.

Education Week: Backers of Magnet Schools Question Charter Push
Magnet schools only accept the BEST and the BRIGHTEST are are not open enrollment establishments, creating a private school within a public school system. These schools get whatever they desire and $100's of millions of public money for facilities funding.
Charter schools have open enrollment on a first come first serve basis of space available. They receive no funding for facilities and are required to become non-profits to to apply for grants and donations for their very existence.
Charters and magnets are still required to follow all the same accountability rules of engagement for being mirror images of existing traditional school models. Innovation and creativity is limited to only extra-curricular activities.
To truly offer choice options a school needs academic autonomy to cater to their individual students. The No Child Left Behind has precluded this from ever becoming a reality.

Cost cutting measures include my recommendation to align the state high school diploma of 24 credits with the SC Commission of Higher Education recommendations of 19 credits for college admission. This would save over $488 million dollars.
